Amplitude Clinical Outcomes offers a single instance platform for both National PROMs and NJR
Historically, it has been impossible to make direct linkages between National PROMs and NJR datasets, as these two separate databases are run and managed by two separate organisations. Currently, National PROMs is managed by NHS Digital, and the NJR registry is governed by the National Joint Registry Steering Committee.
Whilst the NJR aspires to include PROMs within their dataset, there are many challenges and obstacles in the way. Therefore, until those challenges are overcome, this disconnect will continue. Thus, making it impossible to link specific patients’ PROMs data with NJR data, which in turn limits the value that can be derived from the sum of these two parts.
However, Amplitude Clinical Outcomes has developed a solution that links these two datasets together in one platform, with data available in real-time for use as a clinical tool as well as for research and analysis. The pro enterprise™ platform provides hospitals with a largely automated process to collect PROMs data from patients and provides a simple-to-use portal for NJR data entry. Each month, both datasets are sent electronically to the relevant organisations, whilst the hospital benefits from retaining all their data locally and having immediate access to it, whenever required.
The process of collecting these data sets is as follows:
- At the pre-op stage, Q1 PROMs data is entered electronically by the patient into the Amplitude platform via the Patient Portal.
- At the time of surgery, the NJR dataset is captured by the relevant Consultant, or their delegate, and linked to the patient’s record.
- At the relevant time intervals post-op, patients are automatically contacted via the platform, either by email or SMS, to complete their Q2 PROMs. This is mandated at 6 months but can be extended for upwards of 20 years at the hospital’s discretion.
- Hospitals can also elect to send patients a Complications questionnaire at 6 weeks and 6 months with positive responses flagged to the Consultant for validation
In addition, by using the Amplitude pro enterprise™ platform, hospitals can add further clinical context by entering complexity factors and comorbidities, thereby ensuring a complete picture is obtained of their actual clinical effectiveness. The platform’s extensive reporting capability also allows hospitals to not just monitor compliance but also proactively identify areas for service improvements, in a timely manner and in a way that has never previously been possible.
